Core storage risks of stainless steel strips: iron ion contamination, rust, moisture pitting, surface scratches, coil deformation, mixed material errors, label loss. Once rust spots appear on austenitic stainless steel, they are difficult to remove.
1、 Warehouse environment requirements
1. The warehouse should be dry and ventilated, and measures should be taken to prevent moisture and rain
Control the relative humidity of the environment to ≤ 65%; Keep away from rainwater, steam, and underground seepage, and prohibit outdoor storage.
Strengthen dehumidification during the rainy season and in coastal areas to avoid condensation due to temperature differences between day and night; The condensation on the surface of the steel strip can easily induce pitting corrosion.
2. Partition and isolate, strictly prohibit mixing with carbon steel
Key red line: Stainless steel coils should not come into direct contact with ordinary carbon steel, angle steel, or iron plates.
Carbon steel rust falls off and adheres to the surface of stainless steel, forming iron ion contaminated rust spots.
Separation method: separate areas, wooden boards, rubber pads for isolation, and transport forklifts should be used separately as much as possible.
3. Stay away from corrosive media
Avoid acid, alkali, salt spray, cement dust, and welding fumes; Do not store next to the pickling workshop or electroplating workshop.
4. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight
Prevent PVC protective film from aging, brittleness, and delamination, and prevent residual adhesive from adhering to the surface of the board and making it difficult to clean; At the same time, avoid condensation caused by drastic temperature changes in the steel strip.
2、 Stacking and Bearing Standards
1. Elevate the bottom and prohibit direct landing
Wooden pallets and steel brackets (with rubber cushion layer) are used under the steel coil, with a height of ≥ 10cm above the ground to prevent the bottom from being soaked by water on the ground.
2. Prioritize upright placement and be cautious when lying down
Standard large coil material: stored vertically (with the core shaft vertical) to prevent the inner hole from being flattened by its own weight and the steel strip from slipping and scratching between layers;
Horizontal stacking for short-term turnover, stacking layers should not exceed 2 layers, and soft isolation plates should be placed between the upper and lower rolls;
Ultra thin precision narrow strips and strip materials should be placed in a single layer as much as possible to prevent compression deformation and edge collision.
3. Stable stacking to prevent tipping
Adequate channel reservation is required, and leaning against the roll material is strictly prohibited; Do not stack heavy objects above the steel strip.
4. Narrow strip steel strip and thin sheet material
Neat bundling, with corner protectors installed at both ends to prevent burrs and edge damage caused by transportation and stacking.
3、 Surface protection management
1. Keep the protective film intact
Do not tear off the original PVC protective film before processing and cutting; If membrane damage is found, take timely protective measures.
2. Eliminate scratches
Use soft sling (nylon sling) for lifting and transportation; Prohibit direct contact between steel wire rope and steel strip surface;
Add cardboard and rubber isolation between rolls and material stacks;
The forklift fork teeth are wrapped in rubber sleeves to avoid hitting the board surface.
3. It is prohibited to step on, draw lines, or perform welding operations on the surface of the steel strip
Welding slag burns can form permanent corrosion points.
4、 Identification, zoning, and material control
1. One item, one label
Clearly label: brand (201/304/301/316L), thickness, width, surface (2B/BA/HL), hardness status (soft/1/2H/FH), furnace number, weight.
2. Strictly partition storage
Separate stacking according to brand, surface, and hardness to prevent mixing of materials during distribution; Especially, mixing 304 with 201 and 301 with 304 is strictly prohibited.
5、 Key points for lifting and transportation operations
1. The lifting should be smooth and avoid mutual collision between the rolls;
2. When lifting precision thin strips, mirror/brushed materials, priority should be given to vacuum lifting equipment or soft lifting equipment;
3. The flipping of the coil should be minimized as much as possible to prevent wire drawing scratches caused by relative sliding between the layers of the steel strip.
6、 Abnormal situation handling
1. Discovery of surface condensation
Wipe dry with a dry soft cloth in a timely manner, ventilate and air dry, and do not expose to direct sunlight; Check the dehumidification conditions of the warehouse.
2. Floating rust and iron spots appear
Distinguish whether it is surface contamination rust spots or substrate pitting corrosion; Mild pollution can be treated with stainless steel specific passivation cleaner, and materials that have already formed pitting corrosion should be notified to the business in advance.
3. Aging and delamination of protective film
Arrange production as soon as possible, as the cleaning of residual glue consumes a lot of labor hours; Long term inventory can remove aging protective film and reapply it.
